Great for coffee lovers ??Recommend!Package came torn open. Beans spilled into the inner container. Both my wife and I enjoy a nice, hot cup of coffee in the morning. We normally have the typical, easy to find brands. And as a splurge, we buy the more artisanal coffees. This coffee sounded like something we'd enjoy so we gave it a try.Came well sealed in a reseal able bag. And unlike other coffees we have tried, this came in a bigger bag which allowed us to figure out a good brew strength and really give it a try.Upon opening the bag, this had a pleasant aroma. It was a medium roast and it didn't take too long to find our taste preferences. There was no bitterness to this coffee, even when we made it a bit stronger. And the price for it is very reasonable. This coffee is amazing. It has become our new favorite coffee hands down. It looks good, smells incredible, and is a really great way to start the day.My wife and I don't usually buy high end, or gourmet coffees, because we both like to add other ingredients to our morning brew. My wife only adds milk, sugar and sometimes a little cinnamon or vanilla extract. I on the other hand tend to put my coffee in a blender and add ice, dark chocolate syrup, vanilla powder, sugar, and sometimes cayenne pepper (which, believe it or not, goes very well with the dark chocolate). Then we tried MACHETE El Salvador Roasted Whole Bean Coffee, and that changed quite a bit of our daily coffee bean desecration. My wife has cut the amount of sugar she used in half, and only uses 1/4 of the amount of creamer or milk she used to use. I have come to enjoy just a cup of hot black coffee. I know, it freaks me out too. I am not normally a coffee drinker at all. For me coffee has always been just a necessary evil for a pick me up energy boost in the mornings. I did not really enjoy the coffee portion of my drinks, but used it only as a ingredient in my homemade Fraps.MACHETE Roasted El Salvador Specialty Whole Bean Coffee is different from the coffee I have grown used to in restaurants and at home. My wife has coffee every morning and has tried multiple brands over the years, and I have not been impressed with any of them until now. This coffee is incredibly smooth and flavorful. There is no bitter flavor or aftertaste like so many coffees seem to have.So many coffees claim that their products have "hints" of multiple flavors, but very few of them deliver on this promise. This blend has a berry flavor that hangs in the background and compliments the light chocolate flavor amazingly well. I personally do not get the citrus taste with every sip, but it comes through often and somehow does not compete with or take away from the other flavors. It is just kind of there and it works well as a "hint of" ingredient and aroma.Another bonus that I personally have experienced is no heart burn! I have acid reflux, and coffee (especially black with no dairy added) almost always gives me a light to medium case of indigestion. I have not experienced that in several weeks of enjoying this blend straight up with nothing added. Our overall opinion of the Machete brand El Salvador whole bean coffee is overwhelmingly positive, and I will be stocking up to make sure we do not need to ever use the left over coffee we have been ignoring in our pantry. We have shared the coffee with several visitors who have said that they are going to switch to this brand as soon as possible. Oh, and I bought a cheap can of instant coffee to throw into my weekly homemade Fraps, so I won't waste a drop of our new favorite coffee.I really like this coffee. It is a nice rich roast and the beans are really nice and clean. It makes a nice rich coffee in our espresso machine.I also really like that it comes in a 1 kg bag. I get frustrated with companies selling the tiny 10-ounce bags especially when they are taking an environmental focus with their companies. Larger bags do more for the environment than most anything else by reducing packaging, freight, etc.My only complaint with this coffee is the statement "Fully traceable from farm to cup" emblazoned on the front of the bag. I tried, I couldn't find anything. It seems the coffee goes from El Salvador to Ukraine to a distributor in the US who ships it to Amazon to sell. I even tried calling the distributor but the phone just rang and no one ever answered. I know this is a key idea with coffee but they shouldn't just put the words on the package if there is no way to do it.Overall happy with the "MACHETE Roasted Whole Bean Coffee - El Salvador Specialty Whole Bean Roasted Coffee - Medium Roast Coffee - Specialty Premium Roasted Coffee" but I can't give it 5 stars when there is no way to trace the coffee when they say you can. This MACHETE Coffee is a medium (leaning towards light to medium) roast coffee made with arabica beans sourced from Colombia. The flavor has berry notes and very little bitterness. The bag has the roast date printed near the top seam of the bag and a "best by" date on the back (other reviewers have noted smudged dates, but mine were legible). The bag also reveals the tasting notes, farmer (Francy Elena Osorio Criollo), farm (La Cascada), varietal (Caturra, Columbia), process (washed) and the altitude where the beans were grown (1700-1900 m.a.s.l.) They are roasted in Ukraine. I like it when companies reveal as much as possible on sourcing, altitude, roast date, processing method etc., because those are all factors that affect flavor. The only info I'd like to see that isn't revealed is the original harvest date for the beans.I am a coffee lover and I tend to drink several cups of coffee each day. I also enjoy trying out new coffee blends from different companies and for that reason I was really excited to try this medium roast coffee from El Salvador. I was not disappointed!he coffee is full of flavor, with hints of chocolate and absolutely no bitterness or after tastes. The beans are also really fresh and the 32 ounce bag comes whole bean which means you can grind them fresh every time you make a pot of coffee. This is an excellent value for a high-quality coffee that is quite smooth and flavorful, and I will definitely be getting more from this company.
